EP03 - Conan Exiles for Calvin | I play the games, so you don't have to!

Conan Exiles - Age of War

As many of you will know, I am really into survival games, and this game didn't disappoint. Survival. Strength. Strategy. These are the keystones of the world in "Conan Exiles," a game I embarked upon as part of my ongoing series: "I play the games, so you don't have to." My friend Calvin, also a survival enthusiast, and a regular partner in crime in such games as 7 Days to Die, recommended this game to me. He watched as I dove into the harsh, unforgiving world of Conan, sharing insights and enjoying the journey alongside me.

The First Two Hours: A Tale of Survival and Strength

As I stepped into the world of Conan Exiles, the harsh reality of survival hit me immediately. The game thrusts you into a relentless environment. My initial focus was working through the "Journeys" managing to get up to 'Soldier' level in the 2 hour session

The landscape of Conan Exiles is both beautiful and brutal. My journey was fraught with danger, including a nail-biting encounter with the local tribe. Despite my best efforts, I succumbed to their superior numbers and tactics, experiencing my first death in the game. It was a humbling reminder that survival in this world would not be easy.

Then came the storm. The skies darkened, and the winds howled as I found myself trapped in a death loop, each respawn bringing me back into the tempest's furious grasp. It was a test of patience and resilience, and once the storm had passed, I could finally focus on finishing my little humble abode.

Building My Home

With the storm behind me, I dedicated myself to constructing my little hut. The process was immersive and rewarding. Gathering resources, planning the layout, and finally seeing the structure stand amidst the wilderness was a gratifying experience. It became a sanctuary, a place of safety and respite in a world filled with danger.

The Next Steps

As I finished my initial journey, the game set a new challenge for me: "Invest 5 attribute points into Strength." This task represents more than just a numerical increase; it's about preparing for the challenges ahead. Strength in Conan Exiles isn't just physical; it's the strength to face the unknown.

Enjoyment and Anticipation

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two hours of Conan Exiles. It's a game that demands attention, rewarding the player with a sense of achievement and progress. The mix of survival elements, combat, and construction creates a compelling and immersive experience.

As I wrap up this play session, I am eager to continue my journey in Conan Exiles, but that will have to wait until after Christmas. The world of Conan has much more to offer, and I can't wait to explore it further. So, for now, I sign off, but not for long. The adventure continues, and I will be there, surviving, building, and conquering.

Update: I am now the proud owner of Conan Exiles and all the DLC, have reached level 27 and am thoroughly in love with the game. Thanks Funcom!!

To Calvin and All Survivalists

To Calvin, thank you for recommending this gem of a game. And to all of you reading this, whether you're a seasoned gamer or just curious, I hope my experience in Conan Exiles inspires you to embark on your own adventures, in this game or any other. Remember, I play the games, so you don't have to – but sometimes, you might just want to.
