EP12 - There Is No Game for Smactus

 

In the latest episode of "I play the games, so you don't have to," we take on a unique and unconventional game: "There Is No Game." Huh? This game was a special request from the head of the cactus cult, Smactus, whose awesome vibe, and dulcet tones graced our stream throughout the the first couple of hours (plus) of playthrough.

Initial Impressions

"There Is No Game" is anything but your typical gaming experience. Its title alone sets the stage for an unorthodox adventure. During the first two and a half hours, the game consistently surprised and challenged our expectations.

The game thrives on subverting traditional gameplay mechanics, creating a playful and engaging experience. The narrative is clever and filled with humour. The puzzles, while challenging, are integral to the story and incredibly satisfying to solve. There were puzzles that were challenging but obvious, and obvious but illusive. It was so incredibly well done!

The voice acting was incredible and added layer of enjoyment and immersion to the game. Having Smactus' voice in the mix too, made for an awesome auditory experience for all!

Major Challenges

One of the main challenges was navigating some of the later puzzles of chapter two. We decided to resort to using three hints, especially as we were already well over our two-hour slot, and we didn’t want to pause mid-chapter. 

All of the puzzles were fun to work out, but some did have us stumped for sure!

Final Thoughts

Reaching the end of chapter 2 was a significant milestone.  The game's clever design and the satisfaction that comes from solving its unique puzzles, made reaching the end of the chapter extremely rewarding.

"There Is No Game" is a brilliant blend of humor, creativity, and unconventional gameplay. It’s a title that both Smactus and I plan to revisit in the future. The game's ability to turn traditional gaming on its head, makes it a memorable and enjoyable experience.
